Asendia UK's ESG initiatives

Learn how we're embedding sustainability, equity and responsible business practices into everything we do.

At Asendia UK, we align with the Group’s Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and are shifting from offsetting to measurable carbon reduction. Locally, we’ve also introduced initiatives that support our customers’ ESG goals and reflect what matters most to our people, our communities, and the planet.

Committed to high standards

In 2024, Asendia UK retained its Silver EcoVadis Medal, placing us once again in the top 15% of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability. We anticipate our 2025 Ecovadis award will be issued in Q3 2025

We continue to meet internationally recognised benchmarks, including:

  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • Cedex Ethical Audit – Passed in 2024 (valid for 3 years)
  • AEO Accreditation – Customs & Supply Chain Security
  • Waste Carrier Registration – Environment Agency
  • HSE Certification – For use of X-ray equipment

We’re also actively working towards new standards including ISO 27001, ISO 45001 and ISO 13485.

Print Releaf

Through our partnership with PrintReleaf assisted by FleetMPS, we offset the environmental impact of our UK paper usage, including our own internal printing and that of our print and mail customers.

In 2024, we offset:

  • 3 million sheets of paper
  • Equivalent to 396 trees reforested

We’ve now offset more than 13.5 million sheets since joining the scheme.

Our paper use is monitored and matched to certified reforestation projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We’ve also stopped carbon offsetting in line with the Asendia Group’s new focus on direct emissions reduction.

We are proud to support a certified reforestation venture that seeks to enhance afforestation and reforestation in Parc naturel régional Médoc, which lies in the north of Bordeaux, France. The project supports the planting of native Pedunculate Oak and Maritime Pine trees in the region, with the goal of safeguarding and expanding native woodlands while also aiding in the regeneration of deteriorating forests in the area.

We actively encourage our team to conserve paper and avoid printing out emails or documents.

Recycling & Waste Reduction

In 2024, we recycled 228 tonnes of cardboard, plastic and paper waste across our three UK sites. We continue to invest in closed-loop and circular practices to reduce our impact.

Recent initiatives include:

  • Reusable plastic pallets and removable cardboard sleeves for overseas transit
  • Refurbished transit cages and packaging return schemes with customers
  • Reuse and repurposing of wooden pallets into animal bedding
  • A Q1 2025 goal to expand separate waste streams across all locations

We’re also bulk-buying consumables and streamlining internal deliveries to reduce emissions from site-to-site logistics.

Our Mail sortation and Fulfilment Centres in the UK have dedicated Cardboard, Paper and Plastic Baling equipment installed. Our Environment Agency registered recycling partner collects regularly.

Circular packaging for international transport

Asendia UK is part of the International Postal Corporation (IPC) Eco Pallet Boxes project. These reusable boxes are fitted with RFID tracking to help improve efficiency, reduce waste, and eliminate the need for single-use shipping containers.

They’re foldable, stackable, and strong, helping us make better use of trailer space, reduce tare weight, and support a circular approach to packaging.

Investing in low-emission logistics

We’re reducing our transport emissions by investing in greener vehicles and infrastructure:
  • 60% of our UK small collection fleet is now electric
  • 90% of company cars are hybrid
  • EV charging points are now available at Heathrow — free for staff
  • Our Tusker car scheme gives employees access to low-emission vehicles
  • New charging points and fully hybrid fleets are in scope for 2025
