Is your international parcel returns policy making your shoppers abandon their cart?

E-Commerce E-Commerce Returns

Did you know that 67% of shoppers will check how easy it is to send something back before they’ve even made a purchase?

It sounds backwards, but your international returns policy is a massive selling tool, and it really can be the deciding factor in winning a new overseas customer or not.

Let’s step into your potential new international customer’s shoes for a moment.

They’ve never ordered from you before, maybe you’re the first business in your home country they’ve ordered from. They don’t know if the quality will really be as good as you say and, if it’s clothing, will your sizing match theirs… They’re a bit nervous.

They might have read positive reviews and be confident the product is good, but what if when the item arrives it really isn’t what they were looking for or there’s something wrong?

Are they going to be stuck with a bill to send it back (which will eat into their refund) or, worse, stuck with a product they don’t want but have paid for?

Invesp found a massive 67% of shoppers will check a business’s return process before making a purchase for these very reasons, and Flow found an average of 71% of consumers are unwilling to pay for returns.

Of course, the cost of deliveries will very much be dependent on which international parcel services company you decide to partner with, so can they offer the return process your customers demand?

They need to have a two-way International fulfilment centre, help support you with easy to print off return labels and provide pick-up from the customer directly or have drop off points nearby.

That will all go a long way to helping an international customer’s peace of mind that once they’ve ordered, they’ll be able to return the item for a refund if things aren’t as they hoped, and not only will they buy once, but they’ll also come back again and again.
