Sustainability

As committed business members of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, we actively support efforts to protect and sustain these vital creatures through practical action and awareness.

At Asendia, we are passionate about protecting the environment and supporting local biodiversity. At the end of 2024, we proudly became business members of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and have committed to helping the UK’s bumblebee populations in any way we can. Our most recent initiative is the Pollinator Paradise Project — a hands-on initiative dedicated to creating safe, thriving habitats for pollinators, especially bumblebees, whose role in maintaining healthy ecosystems is essential.

As committed business members of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, we actively support efforts to protect and sustain these vital creatures through practical action and awareness. This sustainability initiative, backed by Asendia UK’s Culture Champions, reflects our wider commitment to protecting the planet while fostering a positive and engaged workplace culture.

🌿 A Day of Action

On Thursday, 5th June 2024, a team of enthusiastic Asendians came together for a day filled with purpose and creativity. Our mission is to build sustainable environments that help pollinators survive and flourish.

Here’s what we got up to:

🐝 Building Solitary Bee Homes

Crafted from reclaimed materials and painted a vibrant blue to attract bees, these bee hotels offer safe nesting spaces for solitary bees to rest, lay eggs, and shelter.

🌼 Planting Bee-Friendly Flowers

We created planters bursting with pollinator-friendly blooms, complete with mini water stations for wildlife, to keep our buzzing friends hydrated and well-fed.

The collaborative spirit and hands-on learning made the event meaningful and fun for everyone involved.

🌎 Our Ongoing Commitment to Pollinators

As a business member of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, we recognise the critical role pollinators play in the health of our ecosystems. This Trust works tirelessly to protect bumblebees through habitat creation, research, and awareness campaigns.

By creating nesting spots and planting food sources, we’re directly contributing to these efforts and addressing the challenges of habitat loss and climate change. This initiative is just one example of how Asendia UK is working to support biodiversity and secure a brighter future for our planet.

🏡 Supporting Local Communities

In addition to our environmental goals, we wanted our creations to benefit the wider community. We built six bee hotels in total to support the UK’s solitary bees:

  • One for each of our three Asendia UK sites
  • One for each site to donate to a local school, hospital, or community organisation

We proudly donated and gave a short presentations to the following locations:

Cranford Primary School (London Heathrow)
Located next to our Heathrow office, this school promotes outdoor education and maintains its own allotment. The bee hotel will be placed nearby to enhance pollination and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

Cotton End Forest School (Bedford)
With a strong outdoor, adventure-based learning ethos, this school integrates nature into its daily curriculum. A child of two Asendia UK employees attends here, making the donation even more special.

Woodlands Pre-School (Southampton)
Nestled on the edge of the New Forest, this charity-run pre-school encourages early engagement with nature through gardening and outdoor play. Our bee hotel will support their seed-planting activities and help children connect with the natural world.

🌟 A Buzzing Success

The Pollinator Paradise Project was more than just an event — it celebrated teamwork, sustainability, and community impact. We’re proud of the difference we’ve made and excited to watch our creations support both pollinators and people in the months and years ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and made this initiative such a success. Stay tuned for more exciting sustainability and community projects from Asendia UK and the Culture Champions!
