Tonga Post Limited wishes to update the designated operators of other Union member countries on the status of its operations in the aftermath of Cyclone Gita.
Tonga Post's primary office of exchange on the main island of Tongatapu is currently not in a position to receive mail owing to various challenges, including a lack of electricity and damage to the post office building, post office and customs computers, work files, equipment such as vehicles used in the transportation of mail to and from the airport/post office, and surveillance cameras.
However, international operations will resume as of Monday, 19 February 2018, with the relocation of the Nuku'alofa international office of exchange to a temporary facility operating in a downgraded mode. The process for the receipt and delivery of inbound letters, parcels and EMS will continue to see delays until the international office of exchange is functional, likely within a month's time.
Tonga Post thanks all designated operators for their understanding and will update them once the situation has returned to normal.
