United States of America – Hurricane

08 September, 2017

United States Postal Service (USPS) wishes to inform designated operators of UPU member countries of the following:

Hurricane Irma, a major Category 5 storm, is expected to hit South Florida the morning of Sunday, 10 September, including the Miami area where one of USPS's offices of exchange is located. Damaging and life-threatening winds with destructive hurricane conditions will impact the south-eastern United States.

In preparation, there have already been many flight cancellations and delays, and airport and road closures. Severe weather will impact the transport, processing and delivery of inbound and outbound mail in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and surrounding areas. USPS will provide updates when available.

Moreover, the bad weather is leading to problems with inbound and outbound processing operations at the New York JFK international sorting centre.

USPS thanks all designated operators for their understanding; it will update designated operators via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.
