Friday night there was a security alert at Stanstead Airport resulting in disruption to the below flights:
Stansted-Belfast: One flight on this route was cancelled while another was delayed. This means that some mail posted in London and the South East on Friday night for delivery in Northern Ireland on Saturday has arrived later than planned.
Belfast-Stansted: A return leg on this route was also delayed, with some mail posted in Northern Ireland on Friday night for delivery on Saturday in parts of London, South East England and East Anglia arriving later than expected.
Stansted-Newcastle: This flight was delayed and arrived late in to Newcastle, in addition a small amount of mail was unable to travel on it and had to travel via the road network instead. As a result a small amount of mail posted in London and South East England on Friday for delivery to parts of the North East of England has been delayed.
Stansted-Edinburgh: This flight arrived late in to Edinburgh, as a result some mail posted in London and the South East on Friday for delivery in parts of Central and Southern Scotland on Saturday is has been delayed.
Edinburgh-Stansted: Although this flight arrived on time, mail could not be unloaded due to the security alert. As a result mail posted in Central and Southern Scotland on Friday for delivery on Saturday in London and the South East has been delayed.
Technical issues with the aircraft due to fly from Newcastle-East Midlands resulted in this flight and the subsequent return flight (East Midlands-Newcastle) being cancelled. All mail was transferred via the road network but as a result of this some mail posted on Friday in the North East of England for delivery on Saturday in parts of the Midlands, North of England, South West England and Wales is has been delayed, as will a small amount of mail travelling from those parts of the country to the North East of England.
The flight from Edinburgh-Inverness arrived late Friday night. As a result a small amount of mail posted in other parts of the country for delivery in parts of Northern Scotland on Saturday was delayed.
